Alternative Energy Tours |
1. Solar, Geothermal & Strawbale Homes: Tour two energy efficient homes in Conestogo & Winterbourne and talk with the owner and installer. Bus leaves approximately every 45 minutes 12-2:30 pm from St. Jacobs Arena.
2. REEP House for Sustainable Living: Take the tour bus for a sneak preview of REEP’s 90% energy efficient demonstration century home, featuring super-insulation, R-7 windows, solar panels, geo-thermal, and more. Use the payback calculator to choose your best options. Ride the YMCA’s Veggie Bus to the REEP House! Attending this tour is available by shuttle bus only. The bus departs at 12, 1, & 2pm from St. Jacobs Arena.

Public Meeting re: Capital Paving Gravel Pit
Zoning Change |
Woolwich township public
meeting regarding the rezoning of an area adjacent to the West
Montrose Covered Bridge from agricultural use to mineral extractive
use. This is step 2 in Capital Paving’s bid to put a 47 hectare,
below-water table gravel pit within 100 m of the Grand River. This pit
is one of 5 gravel pit proposals (submitted or pending) on a 5 km
stretch of the Grand River just north of Waterloo in Woolwich township
(5 new pits in 5 km!).

This is a hands-on full day workshop. Topics include: intro to organic farming,
working the fields, compost check, harvest your dinner, edible weeds and ample time for questions and answers. Dress for the weather and be ready for a fairly physically active day. A rain date will be scheduled if necessary.
